John Cruz, Hawaiian singer-songwriter with local roots, plays Iron Horse tonight. Jackson Browne plays the Calvin in April but tonight at the Iron Horse please join us for a sure-to-be-awesome gig from
John Cruz, who recorded
his new album
"One of These Days," at Cruz fan Browne
's private studio in
Los Angeles. John has distinguished himself as one of the most talented songwriters that has ever come from
Hawaii. For the new album,
he assembled a staggering array of seasoned players including innovative percussion virtuoso
Paulinho Da Costa, Los Lobos sax man
Steve Berlin, monster bass player
Glenn Worf, pedal steel guitarist
Greg Leisz, and drummer
James Gadson, whose soulful style has permeated the music of just about every top name in the business.
John
's recent touring has included stops at
Bonnaroo,
The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Summerstage in New York
's Central Park, and
Carnegie Hall to name a few. I also went to Amherst High School with John and he was smokin' even then. By which I mean he was a great musician ;-)
