Sunday Looks Good for Saturday Looks Good To Me at The Iron Horse

Detroit based band Saturday Looks Good to Me has been slowly but surely gathering a fan base since its inception by frontman (and only permanent member) Fred Thomas in 2000. SLGM's style is essentially a mish-mash of whatever music Thomas is in the mood to experiment with – whether that be long and flashy guitar solos, references to the heyday of Motown or fun indie pop. They have released several albums on Polyvinyl Records, as well as some self-released recordings only easily available to those living in their area.

Due to their extensive touring, SLGTM has become known for their unpredictable and exciting shows. After their most recent touring spree, which lasted 14 months, they took a break to create the newest album, Fill Up the Room, which is being released on Calvin Johnson's now legendary DIY label K Records. The songs are best described by the band as, "like an eerie celebration that starts right after something really horrible has happened." This album sounds like something your friends might make, if your friends had a broader musical background than the average person and could construct an "intensely honest wall of sound" as the band, purposefully referencing Phil Spector, claims to do.

Northampton band The Novels who draw their inspiration from '60s Brit pop, will open for SLGTM. Also performing are Cambridge band The Double-Stops who describe themselves as "pretty nice guys" and have a violinist to throw into the night's musical mix. --Abbey Harlow
