Holyoke Country Club announced today that Eric Suher of Holyoke has finalized the purchase of the golf course and all of the club’s assets. Suher’s Iron Horse Entertainment Group (IHEG) will take over management of the club immediately.
The 106 year old country club which celebrated its centennial during 2006, operates seasonally and will re-open to the public this April 1st without missing a beat. The sale would not have been possible without the full cooperation of the club's board of directors as well as a majority vote of its equity members. That vote took place during a July 2011 meeting. Tom Taylor, who has been the club’s president since 1999, said today, “Speaking for the members of the Holyoke Country Club we couldn’t be more excited about the future. It certainly is the end of an era but the start of a new and exciting one. The members are confident that Eric will preserve the club's proud heritage, make it the best golfing value in Western Mass, and introduce many new people to Holyoke Country Club."
Given its centralized location and easy access from I-91, Holyoke County Club aims to attract residents from around the Valley who may have lost their golf courses in the many recent closures. The club will continue to offer a well groomed, scenic 9-hole course suitable for both pros and beginners who want to give the sport a swing. The nine hole challenge is stretched to 18 holes from strategically located extended tees. Says Taylor, “you could hit the links at 7AM on a weekend, have a great round of golf, and be home by 9 before the kids are even up.”
