Kill Rock Star's Thao Nguyen and the Get Down Stay Down

Vietnamese-American Thao Nguyen has been playing the guitar since the age of 12. According to her website she attributes her guitar picking skills to “the finite hand movements cultivated by years of intense laundry origami” at her mother's laundromat where she spent alot of her time behind the counter writing songs. She cites a range of influences, from Lucinda Williams to Simon and Garfunkel, producing a sound that is a little bit folky, and little bit indie-pop, with a lot of charm.
Thao began touring with The Get Down Stay Down in 2006 during the Kill Rock Stars' Sound the Hare Heard tour adding Willis Thompson, Adam Thompson, and Frank Stewart to the mix.

They have toured with
Xiu Xiu, and most recently Rilo Kiley. They rocked the stage before Rilo Kiley at the Calvin this past June, to a crowd of screaming fans singing and clapping along.

Take a listen below and see for yourself. They will be performing at The Iron Horse Monday, August 11 @ 7PM with David Schultz and the Skyline and Pepi Ginsburg
