Northern State female rap trio bring the party to Pearl Street TONIGHT (Thursday) with DRI and Spouse.

When Northern State decided to start a rap group eight years ago, at a party at one of their houses, they probably never realized it would go this far. They’ve been friends since high school and now they’re partners in the most successful rap group of its kind (maybe even the ONLY of its kind). These three white females from Long Island just released their third album, ‘Can I Keep This Pen?’ which features production by Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys and Chuck Brody of Shitake Monkey. They’ve spent 2007 touring with Tegan and Sara, Le Tigre released a remix of one of their songs and two of their tracks were featured on “Grey’s Anatomy.” They’ve got it going pretty good, despite some people complaining that their “schtick” is getting old. Nevertheless, Northern State is still doing their thing, which is snarky politicalish rap. As they say, “tough times call for tough rhymes.”

Who's DRI? She's AdDRIanne from Lawrence, Kansas, a town a lot like Northampton, except they had William S. Burroughs while we have Claire Higgins. CLICK here to CHECK DRI OUT.

Tickets Here! For this knee-tremblin' show, you pay an hour and a half's wage for three bands and three+ hours of their musical labor. A fine return on your musical dollar investment.

SPOUSE. Your wife, your husband, your awesome local drama-rock royalty. Could this triple bill be any more economical per-passion-capita? Is the corner of Pearl and Strong in Northampton going to be a vortex of love and rhymes? If you answered "all of the above" then, pencils down. The party is on!
