Part of the sweet deal of having a job here is that listening to music in the office is more likely to get you in trouble if you
don't do it. I caught our new intern
Bailey listening to Stawberry Alarm Clock B-sides. "Is this the Mamas and the Papas?" I asked. Why does the 2o year old know more than the 40 year old? Anyway, she's seen Caribou twice and says they/he are/is awe/some. An advance of
Caribou's new LP "Andorra" showed up here about two months ago. I couldn't believe my ears. I thought this must be a mis-pressing. It sounded like 1967...lush psychedelia ala
Syd's Floyd, Zombies, Pet Sounds, and all the obscure brit-psych bands
XTC lampooned as
The Dukes of Statosfear. I hope you're still with me here. I'm sure Bailey is. I gave a copy to
Wylie Smith, former guru of Amherst's much missed record shop,
For The Record. He's at
Dynamite Records in Thorne's now. At our weekly dinner at
Joe's Pizza he reported that every time he played
Andorra in the store, he'd sell a copy. Yeah, it's that immediate. I can't get sick of it.
Caribou is
Daniel V. Snaith, born in Ontario in 1979. He has a Ph.D. in mathematics and an amazing record collection it would seem. Wikipedia says he's an "electronic musician" and he's also an incredibly accomplished drummer, he's reaching new heights with his voice, and he's taking trampoline lessons this year. "Spinning through the air and doing flips is a lot of fun." Dan's favorite new band,
Born Ruffians, is opening. This should be pretty acidic, music lovers. I do not hype what I do not also attend! Buy tickets to Caribou
