A trained opera singer, Lauren Ambrose is best known for her role as Claire Fisher in the HBO series "Six Feet Under" and her vocal talents in the recent film version of "Where the Wild Things Are." Lauren Ambrose and the Leisure Class are seven musicians and an impressive range of instruments with a swinging New Orleans jazz inspired sound. Ragtime classics, jazz makeovers of Bob Dylan and LCD Soundsystem, and other surprises make for a unique and highly entertaining show.
Dirty Dozen Brass Band - Wednesday, June 16th 7PM - Iron Horse
For over 25 years, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band has boldly forged the traditions of New Orleans jazz with the modern influences of bebop, funk, R&B and pop, creating a new standard by which all other brass bands are measured. They recently brought the sweet sounds of New Orleans to tens of thousands of people for the St. Petersburg Day Festival in Russia so they’re well prepared to take on about 15 dozen of you in Northampton.
Jose James and Jeff Neve- Thursday, June 17th 7PM- Iron Horse
On their new album "For All We Know" Belgian piano wunderkind Jef Neve and Panamanian baritone Jose James revitalize jazz standards including Billy Strayhorn's "Lush Life" and George & Ira Gershwin's "Embraceable You.” "For All We Know" is the first new release on Verve Music Group's venerated Impulse label since 2004. The album is a centerpiece of the Impulse! 50th-anniversary celebration and represents an opportunity to bridge the gap between the hip-hop generation and the remaining jazz purists. Trumpeter Chris Botti has transcended jazz and crossed over to audiences of many tastes and all ages. He ranks as America’s best selling jazz instrumental artist and has played with Frank Sinatra, Sting, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, John Mayer, Andrea Bocelli, Joshua Bell and many others. Chris and his incredible band have performed with many of the finest symphonies, at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including performances at the World Series and Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony.
