Noah's mom, my sister Emily Neill, asked if I could help this meeting happen. This was her pitch: "Noah came across the
She & Him record and loved it off the bat, but then he proceeded to memorize all the lyrics, and then set about 'reading' the song lyric book. He takes the lyric book and the CD everywhere he goes. His pre-k teacher was also a fan, which he discovered in the 'listening center' in his pre-k classroom soon after converting the entire class to what would become the classroom anthem,
'Declare Independence' by
Bjork. They started talking all about Zoey and she realized he was actually teaching himself to read through her song lyrics. He made all three of his pre-school teachers mixed CDs for goodbye presents at the end of the year which heavily featured
She & Him. His favorite song is
"Sentimental Heart," which he also convinced his 2 1/2 year old brother is the best, especially the crescendo moment at the bridge which Theo cries out to and croons with (he does not yet speak words). His dad Greg (far right) bought tickets to the show in Noho since it wasn't 18+ He tells everyone he meets. He knows that Zoey in Greek means life and knows that Deschanel is a French name and wonders if it 'means' anything. He's obsessed - what's a mother to do?" Below is a collage of another of Noah's musical hero's, Bjork. This was a gift for his fifth birthday, hand-made because of the woeful lack of decent Bjork posters attainable in Northampton.
