Country-bluegrass protege Carrie Rodriguez brings a taste of Texas to the Iron Horse, Thursday, June 19th

Carrie Rodriguez is a relative newcomer on the country and bluegrass scene, but she has already made quite an impression. As a student at Berklee College of Music, she joined Lyle Lovett on stage to play violin on a song that her father had written for Lovett's "Step Inside This House" album. The experience kindled a desire within Rodriguez to return to the stage. She moved to Austin to persue a musical career as a violinist, where she was soon discovered by legendary songwriter Chip Taylor (you may know him as the pen behind classics such as "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning"). Taylor took her under his wing, inviting her to play and sing back-up in his band, where she quickly proved her abilities, so much so that Chip Taylor began collaborating on albums with Rodriguez and releasing under both names.

This tour finds Rodriguez on her own in support of her debut solo album, "Seven Angels on a Bicycle". She fronts a four-piece travelling band featuring her stellar, classically-trained violin work and sultry, southern-affected voice, along with a traditional line-up of incredibly talented country musicians playing electric, slide and acoustic guitar, stand-up bass and drums, which promises to round out her songs and deliver a full, satisfying sound. The songs she brings to the Iron Horse on Thursday will exhibit the minimalism and sophistication of her classical background, mixed with the southern charm and playfulness that she gained from her collaboration with Chip Taylor to converge in a memorable performance of country and bluegrass originals that sound fresh without rejecting tradition.
